two angels and an [former] undying matinee idol
My school's term break came by before we had the time to savor it. And during that term break, i had the opportunity to watch movies: 1 one the cinema, 1 in cinemaone, 1 in our office's homemade pc cinema.
Let's start with the best.
1. A Love Story
Starring: Aga Muhlach, Maricel Soriano, Angelica Panganiban
Seeing the trailers and the posters would entice you to think, "what could be the connection between the three?" "Is Maricel an old wife and Angelica's a mistress?"
Angelica Panganiban has proved she can act well, though sometimes still in a shadow of her childstar days with [pregnant] Camille Prats during PRINCESS SARAH.
Maricel Soriano has indeed showed how she was named the diamond star ,which i think is greater than both [alleged lesbian drug addict] Superstar Ate Guy and [actress turned politician married to a allegedly moronic senator] Star for all seasons Ate Vi.
Aga Muhlach, as said by one of my profs, cute in any angle you can look at...never failed to complete the trio.
I couldnt stress how good [take note. GOOD] this movie was. With story telling that will let you follow a certain line...then twists your brain [and emotions] until the end of the movie.
Probably a notch higher...[no! way higher] than your usual teleserye recycled romances, "A Love Story" shows us a dark side of loving too much, loving blindly and loving without constraints. It may not be the best, but it is in fact considered one of the must-see movies of philippine cinema.
4/5.
2. TXT (no poster available)
Starring: Angel Locsin, Dennis Trillo, Oyo Sotto (as stated in the OBB)
Not as harsh as how i bashed other pinoy horror[comedies], TXT gave a mediocre effect. Giving mumus the ability not just to scare by old fashioned flying household objects and fog machines, TXT gave the power of technology. (im remembering PULSE, another hi-tech horror)
Has good material but sadly, mixed with on-screen forced love/romance scenes from the protagonists and uber cheesy lines, i can see mother lily's invisible hands moving around the movie.
I cant understand why phil cinema keeps on trying to use poor prosthetics with a high budget alloted for the production. [and i thought those corrupt are just found in politics]
The movie started high then ended in a downward spiral. Im still choosing SIGAW over this one.
2.5/5
Last and definitely the least!
3. The Promise
Starring: Angel Locsin, Richard Gutierrez
I dont know if they acknowledged "Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit" in the credits. Why? the story is lossely based from that award winning movie.
Now im brutal.
I would say the budget was well spent...paying the actors, not the production. Angel Locsin has points for this movie, but not Richard. I dont know why they say this is the start of the "boy's" skyrocketing career. He was very one dimensional. He only had this one facial expression, whether it be love, lust, joy, anger...even pagka-antok.
Going in-depth, i did not understand why TJ Trinidad's role [whom they said was a doctor] had to call another doctor to check on Angel Locsin when Angel had this mysterious headache. Some part in the movie, he even said "wag kang mag-alala, doctor ako" when he was injecting anti-rabies on Angel's foot. [hmmm...probably, he was a veterinarian]
Continuity sucked.
Production design and wardrobe was worse.
It was implied that the old man telling the whole story was the old version of Richard Gutierrez. As a friend noticed, it the movie was situated in the year 2005, and the the old man was in his 80, the whole flashback happened during...1925? Then why are there leather jackets, yacht clubs, undergound tekken-like fight clubs and even spaghetti straps in the movie? even a VIDEO CAMERA? not unless the lolo was situated 2040, which is unlikely the same as today's era.
A disgrace.
